Data Security in the Post-Quantum Era: How QNu Labs Is Putting Indian Deep-Tech on the World Map

Quantum-safe communication remains one of the hardest verticals in deep tech to commercialise anywhere in the world — India included. Most ventures in this category are still working through lab-stage physics. A small cohort, however, is now making the harder transition: from R&D roadmap to fielded, revenue-generating product, taking made-in-India quantum technology into the global arena. Bengaluru-based QNu Labs is one of them — and it is making that transition visible.
As co-lead investors in QNu’s Series A1 round alongside the National Quantum Mission, we have watched this company move from a technically ambitious idea to an operationally deployed, internationally recognised quantum security platform. What follows is our read on what QNu has built, why it matters, and what remains to be proven.

WHY NOW
The “quantum threat” has moved from a physics-department debate to a board-level risk item. Financial institutions, governments, and defence establishments have built their defences on the mathematical complexity of legacy encryption — and that complexity has a known expiry date.
Global organisations are already in a race to overhaul their cryptographic foundations ahead of “Q-Day” — the point at which quantum computers render current encryption breakable — which credible estimates now place within 2 to 3 years. Adversaries are not waiting for that date: “harvest now, decrypt later” attacks are already stockpiling encrypted data for future decryption. That shifts quantum-safe migration from a technical nice-to-have to a geopolitical and economic necessity.
The quantum-safe market itself is projected to reach roughly $16 billion by 2035 — a number worth treating as directional rather than precise, given how early and fragmented this category still is. The more durable signal is which vendors can offer sovereign, end-to-end security that integrates into existing infrastructure without forcing a rip-and-replace of core systems. That is the wedge QNu is building for.

WHAT QNU HAS BUILT
QNu Labs is a quantum-safe cybersecurity company that focuses on protecting the world’s existing digital infrastructure against the threat those processors will eventually pose. Its full-stack QShield platform combines hardware-based Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) and Quantum Random Number Generation (QRNG) with software-based Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC) — creating a layered, crypto-agile security architecture that can be deployed over existing fibre and network infrastructure without ripping and replacing what is already there.
That full-stack positioning is rare globally. Most players in this space solve one piece of the problem — a hardware device, a PQC algorithm library, or a secure application. QNu built everything, indigenously, in India.
GLOBAL RECOGNITION
At Bharat Innovates 2026 in France, QNu Labs had the honour of showcasing its quantum-safe security solutions to Hon. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Emmanuel Macron — a recognition of India’s growing deep-tech capabilities on the global stage.
At the same event, QNu signed a strategic partnership with California-based enterprise tech consulting firm SAGA Consultants to accelerate international adoption of its quantum-safe stack, with an initial focus on the banking and financial services sector across North America, Europe, and the Middle East.
QNu has also formalised a research collaboration with Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) in the Netherlands under the ACE QKD programme, focused on rigorous security testing and validation of QKD systems. That kind of independent international validation is a prerequisite for deploying quantum infrastructure at nation-scale, and it gives QNu’s claims a level of external scrutiny that most category peers cannot yet point to.
DOMESTIC PARTNERSHIPS
At home, QNu has built a growing ecosystem of government and private sector partnerships that extend quantum-safe capability across India's most critical infrastructure.
On the government side, QNu holds a strategic partnership with BISAG-N, the national space applications centre under MeitY, on indigenous quantum-safe cybersecurity — confirmed via official government channels. QNu has also pioneered a historic first by securing an exclusive Reseller agreement with C-DAC (BOSS) — the first instance of a Central Government entity entering such a partnership with a private quantum-tech firm in India.
On the private sector side, QNu and STL (Sterlite Technologies) have announced a collaboration to advance research into quantum communications over optical fibre — combining QNu's quantum security stack with STL's national fibre infrastructure expertise. QNu has partnered with Dhruva Space to explore commercialisation opportunities in secure satellite-to-ground-station communication using Post-Quantum Cryptography and satellite-based QKD — building on QNu's successful on-orbit deployment of its QRNG aboard a Dhruva Space satellite.
FIELD DEPLOYMENTS
QNu’s solutions are not in the lab. They are operationally deployed across India’s most demanding environments.
The Indian Army has awarded multiple procurement contracts under the iDEX programme, making QNu the recipient of India’s first nominated RFP from the Army to a startup. QNu has also deployed quantum-safe campus WiFi solutions at Army establishments across the country — securing on-campus networks with post-quantum cryptography without requiring infrastructure change.
The Indian Navy signed a landmark contract for 25 quantum encryption systems — the first procurement order of its kind in India’s maritime defence sector. These systems represent the Navy’s commitment to quantum-safe communications at an institutional level.
In April 2026, QNu demonstrated India’s first 1,000 km Quantum Key Distribution network — the longest in India and one of the longest in the world. The network ran on existing telecom operator fibre, achieved 99.3% uptime over 15 continuous days, and validated all security objectives. It marks the transition from laboratory demonstration to national-scale, field-proven quantum infrastructure.
CERTIFICATION AND IP
QNu’s products have been certified and validated by India’s most rigorous defence and technology bodies: TEC (Telecom Engineering Centre) under the Department of Telecommunications, the Scientific Analysis Group (SAG), and the Army Cyber Group (ACG). The company holds 12 patents granted with approximately 30 pending — the deepest quantum security IP portfolio in India.
REVENUE AND TRACTION
The revenue trajectory backs up the traction: QNu crossed ₹25 crore two years ago and is on track for roughly ₹100 crore this year — real, compounding growth for a company still this early in a category this technically demanding.
WORTH WATCHING
Alongside the momentum, a few things remain to be proven. BFSI security sales cycles are long and compliance-heavy. Quantum-safe adoption globally is still being defined by regulators as much as by vendors. And QNu will increasingly be competing for the same enterprise budgets as well-capitalised PQC and QKD players out of the US, Europe, and China. Government-linked deployments in India have also historically taken longer to convert from signed agreement to operational scale than announcements suggest.
None of that undercuts the milestone stack QNu has built — Navy deployment, Army contracts, BISAG-N, C-DAC MoU, TU/e validation, Bharat Innovates recognition, and now SAGA. It is simply the honest read on what remains to be proven as the company pushes from domestic anchor customer to global vendor. That sequencing is, in fact, close to the textbook path a hard deep-tech thesis needs to follow to de-risk itself — and it is why our conviction remains unshaken.
